The Big Bass Bonanza is a bass fishing tournament taking place on Lake Norfork in Mountain View, Arkansas on October 5-7. This invitational event is sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation (AGFF) and will have cash prizes totaling $162,000.
"We are very excited to be able to offer this major tournament at Lake Norfork," said AGFF executive director Terry guided bass anglers through Missouri and Arkansas lakes. "Bass fishing continues to grow in popularity, and this event will provide an excellent opportunity for anglers of all levels to compete for some really big money."
The Big Bass Bonanza will offer a range of divisions for both boaters and non-boaters, including both team and singles divisions. The entry fee for teams is $600, while singles pay $325. The top prize for the team division is $30,000, with the top non-boater taking home $10,000. In the singles division, the top prize is $15,000.
In addition to the cash prizes available in the main event, there are also numerous side pots available, with total payouts expected to exceed $40,000. Payouts will be based on a percentage of the entry fees collected in each division, with 100% of the side pot going to the winners.
Lake Norfork is a 1,200-acre reservoir located in north central Arkansas. It is well known for its largemouth bass fishery and has yielded three state records: an 18.59 pound world record largemouth bass caught by Don Holmes in 2000; a 14.48 pound state record largemouth bass caught by Bubba Hightower in 2007; and an 11.02 pound state record smallmouth bass caught Tony Latham in 2016. The reservoir also contains good populations of spotted bass, Kentucky bass, bluegill and redear sunfish.
Anglers competing in the Big Bass Bonanza can expect to find fish schooling along primary points and ridges in deep water near humps and creek channels during the day.
